Somerset Patriots opened up an important home stand starting with the division rivals Portland Seadogs who are having a great season so far and one of the top teams at 31-15. It was also a big day at TD Bank Ballpark as the Yankees three key players Giancarlo Stanton, Tommy Khanle and Josh Donaldson had their rehab assignment games for Somerset. Before the game we had the opportunity to interview all three of them as they said really important things to us before going back to New York. Richard Fitts was on the mound for Somerset yesterday trying to continue his momentum from the last start.
Richard Fitts looked fantastic but didn't have that much run support as he got the loss (2-4) going 6.0 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 er, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. Fitts had a few mistakes in the game with having great command and locating his pitches where he wanted to later in the game. Then Tommy Khanle came in next for his rehab outing going 1.0 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 1 er, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. Khanle struggled with his command a little but got a huge strikeout. He topped out around 92-95 which is a great sign. Then Lisandro Santos was next going 2.0 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 er, 1 walk and 1 strikeout.
Somerset Patriots offense didn't get anything going really expect a solo home run from Trey Sweeney who hit his third of the season as they only got 4 hits in the game. The Portland Seadogs pitching had a great game plan against Somerset hitters after that run in third inning. Donaldson went 1-3 with a single and Giancarlo Stanton was 0-3 with a walk. Josh Donaldson and Tommy Khanle could be back with the Yankees in LA against the Dodgers as Giancarlo Stanton might need more time.
We also met Michael C. Sangee and rest of his crew from Surfside Titos at the game yesterday. They we were one of the sponsors for this matchup with Giancarlo Stanton's walk.
I asked Josh Donaldson about his game with Scranton Wilks Barre Railriders on Sunday where he hit a big home run and the success before coming back to Somerset. Here is my interview with Josh Donaldson yesterday.
I asked Tommy Khanle what is like being back with the Yankees, when did he realize it could be a possibility and close to returning with an amazing bullpen for the Yankees so far this season. Here is my interview with Tommy Khanle
