"Quarterback Geno Smith Cashes In With A 3 Year $105 Million Dollar Contract With The Seahawks"

Geno Smith has been living the underdog role for his whole career as a quarterback until now where he had one of his best seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Smith who is from Miramar Florida went to college in West Virginia where he put him great numbers and showed what he can do. The big question how can college quarterbacks transition to the NFL quickly and learn the system. Smith had a tough time early adjusting to the NFL which was a big concern.


The New York Jets took the gamble by drafting Geno Smith during the 2013 NFL draft in round two pick 39. Smith was in attendance for the first round of the draft as some scouts thought that he would be taken in the first round. In preseason Smith got injured but came back and played good. He ended being named the starting quarterback on September 4th after Mark Sanchez suffered a shoulder injury against the Giants. Smith had a up and down career with the Jets as has showed gradual improvement.


In 2016 Geno Smith suffered a torn ACL but never gave up, worked hard and came back with a chip on his shoulder. Then on March 28th, 2017, the New York Giants signed Smith where he got to play with Eli Manning. He ended up taking over for Manning in some games but continued to struggle a little. Smith just continued to work on his game, finding the next opportunity, learning each day and It never worked out with the Giants also.


Geno Smith signed a one year contract with the Los Angeles Chargers back on April 1st in 2018. He didn't really get that much playing time as Smith appeared in five games during relief roles. He has been through a lot in his career trying to find a right opportunity for the family. That perfect opportunity comes on May 15th. 2019 where he signed with the Seattle Seahawks to play underneath Coach Pete Carroll who relates to his players really well.


Smith ended up competing with Paxton Lynch for the backup role behind Russell Wilson. He got released on August 31st, 2019, along with Lynch but the Seattle Seahawks brought Geno back earning that role. He didn't get playing time early but learned a lot from Wilson as a quarterback. His numbers started to improve in Seattle with the hard work and embracing the 12th man fans. The 2022 season is where Smith gets a huge opportunity when Seattle decided to trade Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos for a great package back.


Coach Pete Carroll believed in Geno Smith from the beginning feeling confident with his improvements and was time to move on from Russell Wilson. Smith had a breakout year this season throwing for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a 100.9 passer rating. He kept the Seattle Seahawks competitive, making the playoffs but losing in the wild card round to San Francisco 49ers. Smith ended up being named to pro bowl and winning comeback player of the year award.
