"Scranton Wilks Barre Railriders Start Off The Memorial Day Weekend With A Bang, 5-2 Win"
It was fireworks night for all the fans yesterday at PNC Field as Scranton Wilks Barre Railriders start off this holiday weekend with a 5-2 win over the Worcester Red Sox with great pitching and balanced offense. Both teams were playing around 500 baseball coming into this game as one of them was trying to get some momentum back in series. Yankees pitcher Jhony Brito who has major league experience got the start for Scranton as Chris Murphy started for Worcester. The Railriders had players getting called up and being sent down with Randy Vazquez making his major league debut yesterday.
Before the game I had the opportunity to interview Yankees prospect and Scranton Wilks Barre Railriders pitcher Will Warren who we got to cover at Somerset also. Warren talked about being called up from Somerset to Scranton, how it happened with manager Raul Dominguez/pitching coach Grayson Crawford, what he learned with Somerset, being part of this pitching staff now with Scranton, how he prepares for his starts and some things that fans don't know about him. Warren is a hard worker, improves every season and Yankees fans should be excited about Will.

Jhony Brito looked sharp yesterday with great command and located his pitches. He only gave a home run but was dialed in after, racking up the strikeouts and getting that confidence back. Brito pitched 5.0 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 er, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts, 1 home run and got the win (1-0). Scranton's bullpen did a fantastic job of backing up Brito as Devi Garcia was the first one who got the hold (1) going 2.0 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 er, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Then D.J. Snelten came in to close out the game (2) who went 2.0 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 er, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.

Scranton's offense was fantastic also getting five runs, 7 hits, worked the count and made Worcester's earn their outs. Josh Donaldson looked good by getting two walks in rehab assignment, Billy McKinney hit a big two run home run, his 7th of season getting the momentum, Jesus Bastidas got his fifth home run of the season and Elijah Dunham with his third of the year. Andres Chaparro also got an rbi in this game as the Railriders had a balanced offense and didn't rush anything. This lineup can be dangerous to face for opposing teams when they are hitting at a high rate.
After the game, I had the opportunity to interview Scranton's Wilks Barre Railriders manager Shelley Duncan. Shelley Duncan talked about the win yesterday, Jhony Brito's start, Billy McKinney's two run home run, overall balanced offense, Josh Donaldson's rehab assignment so far and how they deal with the call ups and downs for players. Duncan is very pleased about the way this team has been playing together.
